In-Law’s Suite

Sweet summa time is coming to an end;

applause...

cry...

While we haven't necessarily taken a vacation this summer, it's kind of felt like we were away from home.  My family and I moved into our in-law's home as of June 8th.  And since then, I've had tons of questions asking why we are living with my in-laws - so, let me explain!

My husband works in Denton, Texas - which is about an hour and fifteen minutes commute each way - depending on traffic.  That's roughly 2 and 1/2 hours a DAY driving, which is roughly 12 and 1/2 hours a WEEK, which is roughly 650 HOURS A YEARYou get the idea.

Anyway, we've talked for years about relocating closer to Jason's job when our oldest graduated and moved to college.  We finally got serious about moving, and started preparing to remodel some things in the house that we've wanted to change since we bought our home.  So we got a few quotes from some contractors, picked our guy, and marked "Construction to Begin" on June 18th.

Which brings me to the reason for the move to the in-law's.

We really wanted to have everything completed, house sold, and relocated before the school year began this fall, and to do so, we decided to completely move out (which we were ultimately going to do anyway), so the contractor and his crew could quickly get the work done and not have to work around a family living in the home.

To date, we have been living with my in-laws for about 9 weeks.  It really has been a fun experience and has given the kids and I a chance to deepen our relationship with them!  I absolutely adore them and am obsessed with my mother-in-law's cooking.  I've added a little fluff this summer, and I'm not even mad about it.

She cooks dinner EVERY.  SINGLE.  NIGHT.

Goulash, stuffed peppers, Mexican chicken, spaghetti, fried spam, stewed potatoes, beans, turnip greens - REAL SOUTHERN COOKIN' Y'ALL!

Here is our current living situation in our in-law's upstairs loft...

As you can see, there is Justin's crib right beside our bed...

See that folded out futon?  That's where Annabelle sleeps.  And there's our closet...

Our office is located right beside our "closet".  If you really study the picture, you'll notice toys outside the door.  That's where Annabelle's Barbie Dream House lives in addition to all Barbie accessories.  We get to step over it every time we walk upstairs.

So, yes, there is a family of 4 crammed into one room.  But, I wouldn't change it for the world.  It's really been a lot of fun and my husband and I have had a lot of good laughs in this room.  Don't get me wrong, we are ready to relax on our couch and I've really been missing cooking dinner for my family.  We are so grateful that we have the best in-laws that was willing to open their home to us.  Have you ever lived with your parents or in-laws temporarily?  How was your experience?

Another post(s) to be coming soon about the remodel of our home!  Stay tuned!
